Obituary for Richard P. ""Rich"" DiAngelo

Richard Phillip Di Angelo, 85 of Locke, NY died August 6, 2018 at his home after a brief illness with cancer.
 
Born April 17, 1933 in Cortland, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Stambone.
 
Born and raised in Cortland he attended Cortland Schools, served his country during the Korean Conflict with the US Army and eventually became owner of Cortland Block Company. Having sold the business he moved to Locke and became an Operating Engineer at Over and Under Piping in Auburn where he retired after 40 years and developed a valued friendship with Joe Panna and co-workers.   He was a member of the Groton American Legion.
 
He is survived by his loving wife, together for 42 years, Carol Ann Thayer Henline Di Angelo of Locke, children, Anthony, Christopher (Debbie) and Richard J. Di Angelo, Claude David (Vickie), Mark (JoAnn) and Shelley Henline and longtime special friend, Laurie Wood, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He is survived by his siblings, Shirley Kane and Henry Di Angelo.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Helen Riccardi and baby brother, Phillip.  A special thank you goes to his daughter –in- law, Debbie for her loving extended care provided to Rich and Carol.
 
The Family will receive friends on Friday, August 10, 2018, 10 to noon at the Zirbel funeral home, 115 Williams St., Groton, NY. Services will follow at noon and burial with Military Honors will be in Bird Cemetery, Locke NY.  Following burial a gathering will be at the Groton American Legion. 
 Memorial Contributions may be made to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, 800 Irving Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210.
