In Loving Memory of Salome Persaud

Salome Persaud, nee Dos Santos, fondly known to family and friends as Ma, was born on July 20,1930 in Georgetown, Guyana. She was one of the many children of Mr. Alfred and Olympia Dos Santos (deceased). She attended St Mary’s Catholic school in Georgetown. She was a staunch believer in the Catholic faith, and so never missed Sunday mass, only up until her health began to fail, making it difficult for her to go to church.

Salome was married to Mr. Kenneth Harris Persaud (deceased). Together, they had six children; Noreen, Michael (deceased), Raymond (Bonnie), Salome (Eric Williams), Ann Marie and Deborah. She was the grandmother of Andre, Eric Anthony, Christopher, Christian, Carlos, Donny, Sean and Nicholas and the great grandmother of Alanis and Isabela. Aunt of Ronald, Patricia,Vilma and others. Her only surviving sibling is Gloria.

Salome was a homemaker while she lived in Guyana. In 1987, she migrated to California to join her daughter, Ann Marie. She lived in California for some time before moving to Pennsylvania and later Upstate New York before finally settling in Brooklyn, where she lived for almost three decades. She sent for her children and grand children to join her in the USA. Sadly, her husband passed away during the petition process. Salome moved to Staten Island after retiring from a career as a Home Health Aide.

For her entire life, Salome was a strong, composed, honest, modest and hard-working person. She was the stalwart of the family, the glue that kept everyone together, the pillar everyone turned to for support during the good times, as well challenging times. She was fearless, regardless of the situation she faced. And she was a woman of deep faith. She believed whole heartedly that God will protect and provide for her. And He never failed her. He protected and provided abundantly for her, her entire life.

Ma will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She will remain alive in our hearts. We love you Ma.
