Edward T. Monigan

Edward entered into the presence of Jesus, at home and at peace, on Aug. 3. He was 92.

Mr. Monigan was born to Josephine (Schueler) and Michael F. Monigan on March 8, 1924 in Rosebank, Staten Island, New York. He attended St. Mary's Elementary and St. Peter's High School. In January of 1944, he received a B.S. In Chemistry from Manhattan College. He then entered the Navy and served honorably as a corpsman for 26 months during World War II.

Upon discharge, he worked for National Starch and Chemical in Manhattan and Plainfield, N.J. He later worked in the laboratory for Sun Chemical in Paterson, N.J., then as a sales engineer for Dunmore Corp. in Newtown.

He married Patricia Fair in 1976. In 1991, they founded The Irish Sitter, a pet-sitting service through which they came to know many people. Patricia died in 2008.

Mr. Monigan is survived by his children: Thomas, and his wife, Brenda, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Gerald, and his wife, Joan, of New Hope; and Elizabeth, of Hackettstown, N.J. He also is survived by his step-daughters: Linda Montigel, of Lower Makefield; and Deborah Hann, and her husband, Dave, of Easton. Two grandsons and a great-granddaughter also survive: Ryan Monigan, his wife, Chrissy, and their daughter, Ashley, of Rogers, Ark.; and Michael Zartin, of Hackettstown, N.J.

Mr. Monigan was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus at Assumption Council 1694. An avid, lifelong sports fan, he loved following the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball, and the Arizona Cardinals in football, whom he first saw as the Chicago Cardinals in 1932 on Staten Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Antioch in Yardley. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace in Langhorne.
